ALFRETON Town opened up a four-point gap on the four teams in the relegation zone after demolishing former Football League club Stockport County at the Impact Arena on Tuesday night.
The Reds had to reshuffle before the kick-off when central defender Adam Quinn picked up a calf injury in the pre-match warm-up. Theo Streete was moved from central midfield to cover in defence and Jake Moult was handed a start in midfield having originally been named as a substitute.
Alfreton got a dream start when Nathan Jarman netted the first of a hat-trick on 63 seconds and it was 2-0 after 25 when Anthony Wilson netted from close range.
Jarman showed no nerves from the penalty spot on 37 minutes to put the match beyond the visitors.
Paul Clayton made it 4-0 on 68 minutes when he followed up his own angled drive which County keeper Ian Ormson had parried.
Nathan Arnold got on the scoresheet on 77 minutes when he lashed a shot home from 22 yards before Jarman wrapped up a hat-trick with a second penalty success on 86 minutes after Jordan Rose was adjudged to have fouled the Reds target man.
Stockport finally reduced the arrears in the second minute of stoppage time when he headed in a Euan Holden cross.
Next up for Alfreton Town are Lincoln City at Sincil Bank on Saturday (3pm).
