New Zealand has dropped Jesse Ryder and Doug Bracewell for their side’s upcoming third ODI againstSouth Africa after the duo was found in breach of the team’s protocol.
Following their side’s defeat in the 2nd game, both men went to a Napier hotel, where they were involved in an argument with a member of the public – forcing the Kiwi management to charge them over indiscipline.
“Team protocols dictate that players who are rehabilitating from injury should not consume alcohol and unfortunately both players went to a Napier hotel following the conclusion of the match," the board said in a release. Bracewell is suffering from a hamstring injury, while Ryder made a return to the team following a calf problem.
Indian top order batsman, Virender Sehwag, has come out and cleared the air over his omission from the national squad for the Asia Cup, by claiming that he requested the BCCI to give him a rest.
"I have back spasms. I need some rest. I have never kept my team management in the dark as far as fitness is concerned,” said Sehwag.
Speculations in the media surfaced that the opener had been dropped from the squad after causing unrest in the Indian camp Down Under, where he had been involved in a war of words with skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He has also performed below his usual standards, failing to score a half-century in the ongoing CB series with 30 being his highest.
Under fire Men In Green skipper, Misbah-ul-Haq, has warned the Pakistan Cricket Board over making drastic changes to the team, despite being defeated by England in the ODIs and T20 series at UAE.
Pakistan emerged 3-0 Test victorious against the English contingent but failed to transform their form into the limited-overs leg, where they suffered a 4-0 thrashing in the 50-over format before going onto lose the T20 bouts by a 2-1 margin.
With Misbah’s position under scrutiny, the skipper believes hasty changes could further damage the team’s overall progress.
“I think we need to take this decision only after assessing our resources and if you have those resources then do that,” said Misbah. “If you change for the sake of change, it will not help.”
