Players support calls to condense Big Bash

Unhappy: Dan Christian blasts suggestions of playing shield cricket in the winter months.
LEADING players have called for the Big Bash League season to be condensed and ridiculed suggestions the Sheffield Shield series be switched to winter months.
The popularity of the BBL has prompted Cricket Australia to consider how to expand the Twenty20 competition while not detracting from their core first-class competitions.
Brisbane Heat all-rounder Dan Christian said it was "ridiculous" to consider playing four-day cricket in winter months and believed the BBL season could be shortened from its current five-week regular season format by playing double-headers.
"I'd much rather see the BBL condensed than have to play Shield cricket in winter," said the T20 international.
Heat spin bowler Nathan Hauritz said the BBL could be played daily to ensure the competition didn't eat further into the four-day and one-day competitions which currently go into hiatus for the T20.

"Condense the BBL a bit more so you're probably playing almost every day and some days are two games," he said.
Sydney Thunder import Chris Gayle agreed the BBL season had dragged on but said it could be improved if CA allowed their Test players greater freedom to play when not on national duty.
Test opener David Warner has again been banned from playing for the Thunder in tomorrow's clash against Brisbane Heat at the Gabba but Mitchell Starc and Brad Haddin will play for the Sydney Sixers in Wednesday night's clash with the Perth Scorchers at the SCG.
"If you want Big Bash to get bigger and better you need those sorts of guys," Gayle said.
