Margin Call (15) - review

Margin Call
Margin Call
The reasons for the credit crunch may have been amply explored by documentaries, but until now there hasn’t been a drama that gets to the heart of why 99 per cent of us are all growing steadily poorer.
Margin Call not only redresses the balance, but manages to be a cracking thriller along the way.
After being warned by a layed-off employee that a large investment bank may be in trouble, risk analyst Peter (Zachary Quinto) discovers it’s on the verge of collapse, prompting a series of all-night meetings with his superiors (Kevin Spacey, Demi Moore, Paul Bettany, Ralph Fiennes and Simon Baker).
Margin Call doesn’t get bogged down by the minutiae of sub-prime mortgages and toxic debt, with the expression “Just explain it to me in English” used more than once. It feels a little stagey, but this is the film Wall Street 2 should have been.
