Karen Gillan Ditches Amy Pond For Jean Shrimpton

Karen Gillan Ditches Amy Pond For Jean Shrimpton
Karen Gillan is famed for being the stunning red-haired actress who, as Amy Pond, made Doctor Who sexy again. So it's unsurprising that this talented little whatsit is moving on to pastures new...
In 1962, photographer David Bailey and 18-year-old model Jean Shrimpton created the Vogue shoot that would change fashion photography forever. But the story we all remember is the romance; Bailey and Shrimpton fell in love, hook line and sinker. This month, BBC4 will be airing 'We'll Take Manhattan', the dramatisation of that affair and who better than Gillan to take on the role of The Shrimp?
The role is, without a doubt, perfect for her.
"I'm obsessed with the 1960s. It was the last revolution!" she told The Guardian.
And, even more importantly, as a former model herself, Gillan really understands the mentality of her character.
"Models are talked about, not to. That's still the way it is. But Jean walked out on her dad [when he objected to her affair with a married man] which shows she had bite. I think she was fierce. Quietly fierce."
We have a feeling that, with Gillan in the role of Shrimpton, 'We'll Take Manhattan' may very well have just as much of a fashion influence upon viewers as 'Mad Men' or 'Pan Am' does. And, to be perfectly honest, we'd love a revival of that oh-so-vibrant Sixties ensemble.
Will you be watching 'We'll Take Manhattan' when it airs later this month?
