Well, it worked a treat for Adele... Following a recent, tumultuous bout of heartache, rehab and hotel bust-ups, Sarah Harding has decided to put her misery to good use – and write about it.
The singer, 30, has been penning material for her debut solo album, which is due for release late summer.
Venting frustration at her failed relationship with ex-fiance Tom Crane, and her experiences in rehab, Sarah has already written enough tracks to warrant interest from three different record labels, including the behemoth that is Universal.
It is understood the newly single star is also keen to co-write new tracks for the widely hyped Girls Aloud reunion later this year.
I’m told: “Sarah’s been jotting down lyrics and writing songs for the past few months.
“After the year from hell in 2011, she is now desperate just to get back to her first love – music. She’s had a few meetings and is getting a lot of interest from labels but hasn’t decided which one to go with yet.
“As well as writing about the breakdown of her relationship with Tom, she has detailed her time in therapy, and been pretty explicit about her battles with booze.
“There is some very raw, heartfelt stuff – not the kind of thing people will be expecting. Sarah’s had some pretty wild experiences and wants the album to reflect this.”
Of course, the blonde singer won’t be the first member of Girls Aloud to go it alone. In fact, she’s the last of the quintet to break free.
And while Nadine Coyle’s foray into pop stardom was hardly Madonna-esque, Cheryl Cole and Nicola Roberts both secured critically acclaimed and commercial success. Even Kimberley Walsh’s debut effort with Aggro Santos was no disgrace.
Sarah checked into rehab last October to treat alcoholism and depression, but can now draw on even more explosive album fodder.
Her brief relationship with Theo de Vries acrimoniously collapsed over the new year during a fight in an Austrian hotel room.
She was forced to give a statement to police after the Dutchman allegedly struck her, causing her to lash out in self-defence, and bite him on the leg.
