Two former lightweights will clash – this time as featherweights at UFC on FUEL TV 2.
Fresh off a featherweight-debut win, Ross Pearson (13-5 MMA, 5-2 UFC) now welcomes longtime 155-pounder Dennis Siver (19-8 MMA, 8-5 UFC) to the division as part of the April event in Sweden.
UFC officials confirmed the fight with Swedish site mmanytt.se. MMAjunkie.com(www.mmajunkie.com) subsequently confirmed it with event sources.
UFC on FUEL TV 2 takes place April 14 at Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm. The main card airs on FUEL TV (live on Saturday afternoon in the U.S.), and as MMAjunkie.com first reported, some prelims are expected to stream on Facebook.
Pearson vs. Siver likely will be part of the main card.
The two fighters first met at UFC Fight Night 21 in 2010, where Pearson earned a unanimous-decision victory in a "Fight of the Night" performance. Despite Pearson earning a 30-27 decision, all three rounds of the fight, which mostly took place on their feet, were competitive.
Pearson, who won "The Ultimate Fighter 9," made his plunge to featherweight this past month at UFC 141, where the English fighter earned a hard-fought unanimous-decision victory over Junior Assuncao. Pearson, who dropped a weight class after a loss to Edson Barboza at UFC 134, is now 6-2 over his past eight fights, all of which (except one) came in the UFC.
Siver, a German fighter, had surged into lightweight title contention with four consecutive wins over the likes of Matt Wiman, George Sotiropoulos and Spencer Fisher. However, following a submission loss to Donald Cerrone at UFC 137 in October, he mentioned the possibility of dropping down a weight class. Although just 1-3 in his first UFC stint, Siver is now 7-2 in his latest.
